"Police describe the incident as an intimate partner-related homicide."🕯 Today we mourn for another victim of intimate partner violence in Canada.
This Tuesday, 29-year-old Savannah Kulla was shot and killed in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in Brampton, ON. According to Savannah’s mother, she had gone to meet her ex-partner after agreeing to allow him to spend a few hours with their 17-month-old baby girl. An Amber Alert was issued for the child, who was found safe with family. Early Wednesday, following an interaction with officers, the man responsible was shot and killed by police. Savannah leaves behind four children.
This tragic death comes during a week when the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation’s trekkers are departing for 5 days of hiking in Cambodia and our Night Light Walkers are set to shine brightly in communities across Canada. Helping women like Savannah find a safe path away from violence is why we hike and walk and donate in so many other ways. Our hearts break for her family, friends, and community, and our resolve is deepened to make this senseless violence stop.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Visit sheltersafe.ca to find the support and services you need, no matter where you are in Canada. … See MoreSee Less
