Educational Youth Volunteer Workshop

Women’s Resources of Kawartha Lakes is expanding our volunteer program to support youth in completing their community involvement hours. We are introducing ConnectED: Your Relationships. Your Voice. Your Choice., an educational workshopas part of our Youth Volunteer Program. Attendance in this series will be included as a component of their volunteer experience and will count towards their high school community involvement hours. This workshop aims to equip youth with essential knowledge and skills, while encouraging meaningful engagement with important social issues. The topics include:

Recognizing Red Flags: Helping youth identify early warning signs of gender-based violence (GBV) and human trafficking, including manipulative behaviour, grooming tactics, and unhealthy relationship dynamics.

Consent and Communication: Exploring the importance of consent in relationships, including legal definitions, personal boundaries, assertiveness, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to help youth confidently express their needs.

Digital Literacy: Teaching safe online practices such as recognizing online predators, managing privacy settings, and reporting suspicious behaviour.

Through ConnectED, Youth will learn how to recognize unhealthy or unsafe situations, warning signs in relationships, understand the importance of consent, and stay safe online. Youth will build confidence, communication, and teamwork skills while making a positive contribution to their community. Youth will gain knowledge on local resources regarding gender-based violence, human trafficking and online safety.

Who can participate?
Youth aged 14 – 18 who are currently attending high school and looking to receive community involvement hours.

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm
