CONCEPT

The Extraordinary Women of Kawartha Lakes Awards recognizes women who have made an extraordinary contribution to the improvement of the quality of life in our community. To be eligible women must live or work in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

WHEN & WHY

The awards presentation takes place in October, Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the accomplishments of women. To celebrate Women’s History Month, we would like to recognize those women in the Kawartha Lakes area that have made their mark in history.

THE EVENT

The celebratory event includes a dinner followed by the presentation of the Extraordinary Women of Kawartha Lakes Awards.  As this is one of Women’s Resources main fundraising events, there will be lots of fun fundraising activities throughout the evening.

More about the Awards

To be nominated for one of the six awards the Nominee must:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • be a resident of CKL
  • if employed, must work in CKL as her primary location
  • must agree to the nomination

The nomination must also include:

  • two references (not family members)

Nominees may only be nominated in one category.

Nominators may be indivudals, associations, businesses, churches, service clubs or not for profit organizations.

EXTRAORDINARY COMMUNICATOR

Nominee has raised public awareness about issues and needs in CKL. She is a woman who is able to convey, express, or exchange information to motivate others. She may communicate her message through visual, literary media, architectural, counselling or performing arts. Her message(s) have made a significant and substantial difference in CKL.  

FULL AWARD DESCRIPTION

EXTRAORDINARY VOLUNTEER

Nominee who voluntarily offers herself for a service or undertaking in CKL. She is a person who performs her service willingly for no financial gain in return, putting in the time, effort and commitment to help and improve the quality of a person’s life or situation or a cause that she is passionate about. She has the determination to put her values and beliefs into action. 

FULL AWARD DESCRIPTION

EXTRAORDINARY DETERMINATION

Nominee who has used her thoughts and energy  to improve herself or her community. She possesses a combination of skills, knowledge and beliefs to overcome obstacles. She has an understanding of her strengths and limitations which are essential of self-determination; her personal process of learning and gaining control to improve her situation in life.

EXTRAORDINARY MENTOR

 Nominee who is a guide, a role model to others, who offers support and encourages people to grow in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be. An influential sponsor or supporter of life choices or workplace nurturing and  encourages new and creative thinking.

EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN IN BUSINESS

Nominee who has excelled not only in their professional lives but also as a leader and role model in CKL. She has a strong sense of self. The nominee is recognized for their entrepreneurship, creation of job opportunities and involvement in CKL, recognized by her peers as an exceptional business woman and is a role model and inspiration to others.

EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN

Nominee is that extraordinary woman who has set a high standard for compassion and caring in CKL. Her leadership skills have been instrumental in making a significant impact in CKL. She has helped to make up the heart and soul of her community, school, business, or workplace. A woman who is non-judgmental of others, seeks out the good in everyone and is always there to lend a helping hand.
