Progress didn’t happen overnight — it happened because women spoke up, stood strong, and fought for equality. From gaining the right to vote to breaking barriers in leadership and representation, each milestone has helped shape a more inclusive future.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we honour the women who paved the way and continue to advocate for equality, opportunity, and justice for all. 💜

"In Canada, the women’s shelter movement began in the early 1970s. In our community, Women’s Resources of Kawartha Lakes continues this legacy." On International Women’s Day, this is a great read from the City of Kawartha Lakes on the history of women’s shelters and the work being done.

Today is International Women’s Day.
It is a day to celebrate the progress made in advancing women’s rights and highlight the ongoing efforts needed to ensure their full participation in all aspects of society.
In Canada, progress has been driven by decades of advocacy and leadership. More than 50 years ago, women and civil society groups called for action, helping pave the way for the creation of Status of Women Canada in 1976, now the Department for Women and Gender Equality.
This legacy reminds us that meaningful change does not happen overnight. It takes commitment, collaboration, and sustained action. So, as we mark this important milestone, let’s look ahead to building a future where everyone can reach their full potential.
Happy International Women’s Day! 💪🌸
