I’m Not Sure I’m Safe
If you’re questioning your situation, you’re not alone.
Many people who experience abuse are unsure whether what they’re going through is “serious enough” to ask for help. If something doesn’t feel right, that matters. You do not need to be in immediate danger to reach out for support.
This page is for people who are unsure, conflicted, or trying to make sense of what they’re experiencing.
Abuse is not always physical.
If you have experienced any of the following and would like to speak to our support team, please call our free and confidential 24-hour support line – (705) 878-3662 or 1-800-565-5350.
You may be questioning your safety if:
Abuse isn’t always obvious. It can build slowly and look different for everyone.
- You feel afraid, controlled, or constantly on edge
- Someone limits your choices, movements, or access to money, support, or information
- You feel blamed, pressured, or made to doubt yourself
- You worry about how someone might react if you disagree or set boundaries
- You feel unsafe emotionally, physically, or mentally (even if you’re not sure why)

You Don’t Need to Decide Anything Right Now
Reaching out for support does not mean you have to leave, report, or take action before you’re ready. Support can simply be a conversation. One where you can talk things through, ask questions, or better understand your options.
You are in control of what you share and what happens next.
Support Available If You’re Unsure
You can connect with support to:
- Talk confidentially about what you’re experiencing
- Learn more about what abuse can look like
- Explore safety planning, even if you’re staying where you are
- Understand available supports and options
- Get help thinking through next steps
If your safety changes
If at any point your situation changes and you begin to feel unsafe or in immediate danger, help is available.
You can call 911 or, if possible, move to a safer place. Trust your instincts: if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to reach out for immediate help.
